Websites used to be all about clean html and css without any fancy effects. Well I beleive these days are over. New techniques allow great webmasters to produce some really stunning stuff. And the best part is, you don`t have to be a code guru to have this on your page. Many of this jQuery plugins and effects are already written, you just need to implement them on your site. Some will say, javascript is evil. That it will slow down your site, that it is bad for SEO and many more. Well in my experience, this is just not true. I think it gives the sites that little extra something, to stand out from the crowd. And that`s why I will explain in this article, which effects I found the most fitting to use on a classic portfolio site.
Color Fading Menu with jQuery
Fading is the new rollover they say. And they are right. What used to be exclusive to flash users is now widely popular amongts html and javascript coders. The buttons are given that extra dimension and it just looks nice. I made some improvements and modifications to fit on my page, but nothing too fancy. Nivo Slider
The most awesome jquery image slider and the most important jquery effect on my site must be the Nivo Slider. This great looking script enabled me to showcase some of my best work in an awesome slideshow way. Bored with those over-used fading transitions? Nivo Slider gives you the option to choose between 9 different transitions. Sky is the limit they say and with Nivo Slider you can do just about anything. jQuery Image Slide on Hover
Maybe not as fancy as Nivo but this nice little plugin still produces a nice effect. You can use a vertical, horizontal or diagonal slide. The demo is available here, while the short tutorial and download link can be found on spoonfedproject.com.
jQuery Easing Plugin
This ease to implement plugin enables you to make your anchor links more user friendly. Instead of being instantly transported to another section of the site, the screen smoothly slides to the desired target. Many options to choose from, this Easing plugin is a must for those 1 page portoflio sites as well as some other. Demo and plugin download are available on it`s homepage.
Fancybox – Fancy lightbox alternative
FancyBox is a tool for displaying images, html content and multi-media in a Mac-style “lightbox” that floats overtop of web page. Bored of traditional lighbox effect? This plugin enables you to create your own personalized style for the fancy image pop-ups. You get enormous options and once again, this comes right next to Nivo Slider, by it`s versatility and options. You can read more about it on fancybox.net.
